I live and work in Hitchin, Herfordshire, and have been taking pictures for over 20 years.
I started off using film cameras in the 1980's using an old Praktica B100.
I then moved to Nikon and picked up a second hand film camera.
After several years of using film, digital cameras started to appear with rumours of film becoming obsolete. It was then that I decided to take a break from photography.
In about 2007 after playing around with a pocket sized compact camera, I decided to buy a new Nikon digital camera. I put a macro lens on it and took pictures of flowers. From there on I was hooked on photography again, seeing the beauty of nature in a simple garden flower that I had walked past several times without noticing.
I then bought a Nikon P900 in around 2015 which was one of the best fun cameras I've used. It had a huge zoom range and I was able to easily see sunspots (with Mylar solar safety film), the four main moons of Jupiter, and to zoom in on a plane flying at 35,000 feet was amazing.
When the Nikon D500 came out it was the dream camera for birds in flight, one thing I have always wanted to do. Since then I have focussed primarily on birds as my main subject, although I do take pictures of landscapes and always like a good sunrise or sunset.
Now mirrorless technology is here and another change is in the air. Videos are becoming more popular for storytelling, but I still feel that a photograph when properly done can evoke a sense of wonder or maybe even remind people what a beautiful planet we live on.
Let us see what the future brings, (and this time I am not taking a break).
This is my first website and it will be an ongoing project adding more content over time.
I have added a Flickr link which I have recently started up.
